We Love Philly

The Cyber Security Pre-Apprenticeship program with We Love Philly was intentionally created for high school-aged youth. It is based on the State Registered Apprenticeship best practices and partners with local cyber security companies, community non-profit partners, and a Registered Apprenticeship partner in Drexel University. During the experience, youth receive intensive classroom training and certification in creative and industry-recognized technology skills, work on client projects, and complete job shadow experiences with local employers.

Youth in this program will build a cyber security portfolio that highlights their relevant skills and accomplishments to showcase their knowledge of essential skills and ideas related to cyber security. By the end of the program, youth will earn a Google Cyber Security certification through Coursera and host an event to educate the community on the basics of cyber security and to demonstrate what they learned.

The Workshop School

The Workshop School wrapped up its summer programming with an inspiring Summer Showcase. Youth from the Sports, Fitness, and Health cohort welcomed attendees with fresh pressed juices they created, then led a demonstration of a workout they designed. One participant shared that the most valuable lesson they learned was “consistency”. Coach Brown, the facilitator for the Sports cohort shared that his favorite part of working with the youth was watching students push themselves each day and give their full effort.
Attendees also explored a gallery walk featuring projects from the Tech cohort. Youth showcased engraved pens, coasters, and notebooks created for a local Georgetown University alumni chapter, along with custom clothing they designed using die cutting machines and heat presses. When asked what was the most valuable thing they learned, one youth shared, “Save my money. We get alot of money at one time and I don’t want to just spend it all in one place. So I learned how to save it.”
